File Library

Wednesday, October 08, 2008

All photos are uploaded (and then stored) into your File Library before going onto your website, whether you upload a photo directly onto your page through an Image feature, within a text or as a separate media item through Add/Edit Content.
Once a photo is in your library it can be uploaded to several spots on your site (you don't have to upload it twice).

Go to your File Library. To upload a new photo into your library, click Add Files and then Browse. If you only have one photo (=file) to upload choose Single File Upload. If you want to upload several files at the same time choose Upload multiple files at one time (this requires flash). Search your folders on your computer (or camera, flash drive etc.) until you find the photo you want and either double-click it and then Upload or click it once and then open and Upload. The photo will be added to your library.
Once it is saved into the library you can just double-click the image you want to upload onto your site.

Creating New Folders
You can organise your photos in folders. To set those up just click "New Folder" and "Edit" to give that folder a name. You can create folders within folders (sub folders), e.g. Technology - Computer. Create the "Technology" folder and go into it. Click "New Folder" within the Technology folder and "Edit" to name it.
Click Cancel to stop the process.
Click twice on a folder (click once to select it and then again to open it) to view, edit or upload files.
To go back one level use the breadcrumbs at the top of the library: >>Site>>Pictures>>etc.

Cut and Paste Photos
You can cut and paste files in your file library, like moving a photo from one folder to another.
Select the photo you want to move by clicking on it once. Then click Cut and go to the folder you want to move the photo into. Click Paste and the image will be pasted in this folder. You can also select several photos and move them into one folder. The selected photos don’t have to be in one folder; you can select and cut a photo from folder 1, then go into folder 2 and select and cut, go to folder 3 and do the same and then go to folder 4 and paste them all in. Please note that all selected and cut photos have to be pasted into the same folder.

Deleting from the Library
To delete photos or documents from you library just click on that item once and then Delete. Please note that once you delete a photo that is already in use (e.g. with a blog post that is published), that photo will be deleted from that post as well and a x will appear instead of that photo.

Saving Documents and Downloads
You can upload links to full documents into your library and then put on a text area.
Go to Documents in your library and upload your document through Add Files and then Upload. The title will be stored in your library and displayed as a link wherever you drop it. The document opens in a new window when clicking on the link.

User Files
If you set up several administrators / editors accounts or have people signing up on your website and creating accounts you will have your own users. Those users have the possibility to personalise their profile and upload images with them. Those will be stored in User Files.
