Your Main Menu

Your Lara site comes with two menus:
A Main Menu which is usually located underneath the header, mostly as a horizontal line but also as a left or right aligned vertical menu.
The Top Menu is an additional menu at the very top of your screen above the header. Most people use the Top Menu to display additional information like a link to the sign in screen, a contact page or a sign up button.

Both menus can be edited or hidden in the same way.

Go to Pages and Menus in your admin menu. You now see Your Website Organisation with your pages and menu links.

Move your menu links and create a submenu

You can easily move your menu links around. Click on one and use the blue arrows to move them to the right or left.

You can create submenus (a menu link will be underneath another one and appear as a drop down menu) by using the 45 degree angle arrows.
If you highlight (click on) a menu link and click View it will bring you to that page.

Delete a menu link

If you no longer want to have a link in the menu section click on it and then delete.
Please note that deleting a link from a menu does not delete the page but only the link from the menu section. If you want to delete the page you have to do that in Website Pages.

Edit a menu link

To change the text of a menu link click on it and click Edit (in the Main Menu Links section).

Now you can edit the current Menu Text and also the Description.
The Description shows when people hover the mouse over the menu link if you have the box underneath checked.
Open link in a new window means that the page will not open in the same but in a different window. This is mostly used when there is an external link that leaves the current website.

Add a new menu link

You have two ways to add a new menu link to a page that already exists in your pages or to an external link.

Link from Website Pages
Let’s say you created a page “Our Services” but have not added it to the menu yet because it was under construction. The page is now ready to be published and you want it to appear in your Main Menu.

Click on the page Our Services in your Website Pages section at the top of the screen. You see it is highlighted in dark grey. Use the To Main button to add it to the Main Menu section. It will be added as the last menu item in your current list. Use the blue arrows to move it into the right spot.

Link in Main Menu Links
You can also add the link directly in the Main Menu Links section.

Click on Add Link and select the page from the Select Path drop down. All your existing pages are listed here. Choose the one you want to link to (in this case /our-services) and write a Menu Text and Description.
Decide whether you want to show the description when people hover and whether the link should open in a new window. Click Save.
If you want to link to an external page (a page outside of your website, like Get Lara), select External Link and add getlara.com into the http:// field below.

Add a menu link to a new page

Before you can add a link to a new page you have to create it. If the page does not exist yet the link cannot go to it. You can create a new page in the Website Pages section at the top and then add the menu link to it.

Hide your Main Menu

You don’t have to have a menu and if you choose to hide it and only use the Top Menu you can do that.

Go to Site Design and click on change on the Menu section. Click on Hide in the box on the left and then on the Hide box again. Save. This will hide the Main Menu section completely from your page.

If you at any point decide to have a Main Menu again come back to the Site Design, click change on Menu and choose a menu style.
